Children In The Birth Chart

Guides › Life Topics · Updated 31 Oct 2026

The houses and planets

  • The 5th house — children, creativity and the joy they bring.
  • The 5th lord — its strength and placement.
  • Jupiter — the natural significator of children.
  • The 9th house — the 5th from the 5th, often read for the second child.
  • The Saptamsa (D-7) — the divisional chart for children.

Timing

The blessing of a child is often seen in the dashas of planets linked with the 5th house, the 9th house or Jupiter, especially when Jupiter's transit touches the 5th house or its lord in both partners' charts.

When there is delay

Delay in the chart is a call for patience and care, not a verdict. Medical advice should always come first. As per the classical texts, prayers such as the Santana Gopala mantra and worship of Jupiter are traditionally done for this blessing, with faith and without anxiety.

What astrology should not do

Responsible astrology does not predict the sex of a baby, and TRAC never does. It also avoids frightening language. The aim is to show supportive periods and to encourage calm, informed decisions.

A worked example

A Libra ascendant chart: Saturn rules the 5th house (Aquarius) and is placed in the 4th house in Capricorn, its own sign. Jupiter is in the 9th house. Saturn as the 5th lord can suggest some delay or a mature approach to parenthood; its strength in its own sign shows the promise is sound. Jupiter in the 9th (the 5th from the 5th) supports children. A period of Saturn or Jupiter, with Jupiter's transit over the 5th house, would be the likely time.

Reading for both partners

The blessing of a child concerns both partners, so astrologers read both charts. When both show supportive periods at the same time, the timing is stronger.

Adoption and other paths

Links between the 5th house and the 12th or 8th houses are sometimes read for adoption or other paths to parenthood. These are sensitive matters and should be discussed with care and with medical guidance.

Frequently asked questions

When will I have a child? Look for periods of planets linked with the 5th and 9th houses or Jupiter, with Jupiter's transit supporting the 5th house in both charts. TRAC's timing answer shows these periods.

Can astrology tell the baby's sex? TRAC does not predict this.

The Saptamsa (D-7) in a little more detail

The Saptamsa divides each sign into seven parts of about 4°17'. In this chart, the 5th house, its lord and Jupiter are examined again. When the 5th lord of the main chart is well placed in the Saptamsa, the promise seen in the main chart is confirmed. Because this chart changes about every half hour, an accurate birth time is important.

Timing in more detail

Astrologers often look for three things together: the dasha of a planet linked with the 5th house, Jupiter's transit over the 5th house or its lord, and Saturn's support (by aspect or transit) to the same house. When all three agree in both partners' charts, the time is considered strong.

Key points to remember

  • The 5th house, its lord, Jupiter and the Saptamsa are read together.
  • Delay is a call for patience and medical care, not a verdict.
  • Both partners' charts are read.
  • Remedies, as per the classical texts, are prayers done calmly, alongside medical advice.
  • TRAC never predicts the baby's sex.

Is a strong 5th house enough? It shows promise; the dasha and transits show timing, and medical guidance always comes first.
